This is the (somewhat) surrealist meeting point between museums and mobile telephones. Between the here and now and the eternal, the everyday and the exceptional, the minuscule and the monumental, the familiar and the institutional...

In other words, using a mobile telephone to film a museum.

Every aspect of the museum: exhibitions, permanent collections, workshops, behind-the-scenes action…Giving visual – and why not aesthetic? – form to the thousand and one amusing, critical or factual observations made during a museum visit. Perhaps providing a wealth of lessons on the perceptions of visitors, this is a competition involving the use of the mobile phone, that most democratic of devices.

Why museumexperts, why SimeSitem? Observation and analysis of the operation and evolution of museums have for years constituted the fundamental basis for our activities, through the exhibitors, workshops and conferences of SimeSitem, the trade fair devoted to museums and cultural sites. Visitor studies have acquired an increasing importance for museums, as has been demonstrated by communications on this topic at previous editions of the fair. Our intention is to pursue these investigations with a programme of conferences on the young visitor’s perception of museums. This will support and broaden the musées (em)portables (Mobile museums) event.

Throughout the period of the trade fair, musées (em)portables (Mobile museums) will occupy the superb Mezzanine of the Carrousel du Louvre in its entirety, with ample capacity to welcome all visitors. Starting on the opening day of the trade fair, 24th January, the selected films will be projected continuously, together with other selected sequences on the same theme. The announcement of the winners and the prize award ceremony will take place in the late morning of Wednesday 25th January 2012.

None of this would have been possible without the understanding and support of the eminent figures who have agreed to join the jury and whose advice and encouragement have been of enormous assistance in the design and preparation of this ground-breaking festival.
