International FORUM for Future Museums
The theme of this first International FORUM for Future Museums
focuses on an in-depth study of five major museographic
building projects offering an outstanding opportunity to
be immersed in the design and organisation of contemporary museums,
pointing up their similarities and differences over and above their
individual architectural features and the nature of their collections.
The second aim is to ask ourselves questions about the future
needs of these museums that are undergoing building project or will
do so in the near future. These are needs expressed in the form of a
foreseeable requirement for technical methods as a function of the
collections and organisational principles, or the need to study their
image, target audience, private financing, etc.
- • Centre Pompidou - Metz,
- • Confluences - Lyon,
- • Louvre - Lens,
- • the Mucem - Marseille,
- • The Soulages Museum - Rodez,
For each participant the FORUM is made up of two phases: a conference and a workshop.
The Forum is held in the Carrousel du Louvre, salle Soufflot, in a dedicated space in a same time as simesitem, 27-29 january 2009.
The programme for each conference is the same for each of the museums.
It will be made up of two one hour sessions, separated by an interval of fifteen minutes.
- • Part 1: Collections and Programme
- • Interval
- • Part 2: Anticipated Needs
Speakers
It would seem to us appropriate for each museum to put forward three representatives as speakers:- - Political : National authorities
- - Architectural : The Architectural Team
- - Scientific : Conservation
As regards assessors, we would envisage having three people from backgrounds that are both diverse and complementary, including one journalist. Naturally, interaction with the audience will be strongly encouraged.
